No dog wanted to catch The Kook, a common psychological disorder that involved eating strange things and attempting dangerous stunts. It was most common among pups on the verge of adulthood.
Stricken dogs would eat things like grass, dirt, hay, feces and I even heard a case that involved eating wool. Dangerous stunts varied, but one sticks out in my mind. A dog climbed to the top of the Barkingburgh Cliffs and jumped off with a sweet tater crate on his head. He landed in a tree with only minor injuries, but his survival only encouraged him to try it again. The second time he wasn’t as lucky, and walked around with crate shrapnel jetting out of his head until his final days. He was cured of The Kook, but was never quite right.
